originally heard on a c90 mixtape from the mid 90s, unearthed 15 years later, recorded from a demo played on the andy kershaw show on radio 1 in 1996! what followed was an epic quest to find the artist and the original masters and all roads led to west london, summer 2010............. musa k hails from sierra leone but is now based in west london and his tracks paint a landscape of brutality and horror on the guinea coast, set to a soundtrack that is pure funk. these two remarkable previously unreleased tracks fuse and deconstruct, hip hop, afrobeat, techno, p-funk and dub. a truly unique voice and lyrical style musa fits no stereotype. an edition of 200, 12inch black vinyl remastered from original mastertapes.

twisted tongue follow up their acclaimed debut album with the first single from their follow-up lp, >a return to space<. eschewing the p-funk stylings of their self-titled debut, twisted tongue (dave jay & mark dalton) provide an essential revival of the mid-tempo soul stepper, featuring guest vocalist johanna lee sweetly leading a tough, incessant groove that recalls the classic likes of nick martinelli and the mizell brothers. twisting the track even further are the remixes provided by dj ray mang (dfa, mangled), one of the founders of londons nu-disco scene, who has long taken inspiration from new yorks golden era of the loft and paradise garage. twisted tongue writer/producer dave jay joined forces with ray for his >mang vs. mondo< ep on mangled earlier this year, and here mang returns the favour by dubbing out and extending >a return to space< to mind-bending effect. on the flipside is the cinematic, downtempo remix by blue states, which subtly subverts the original, transforming the track into a late night indie excursion. andy dragazis (blue states) has now been delivering his unique brand of melancholy, guitar-led head music for over decade, via labels such as xl recordings, and this mix of >a return to space< ranks up there with his most memorable work

encapsulating carolas approach to techno in both sound and title, groove catcher is the naples producer at his best, with a rolling bassline punctuated by a percussion pattern that teases out the funk of the track in carolas trademark style: pacey and direct, but with enough bounce and fluidity to fully snare the occupants of the dancefloor within its grip and make them do its bidding. fellow album cut, the method, which appears on the vinyl format only, is similarly insistent whilst lighter in tone - if groove catcher is best employed at the peak of a club set, then the method is its daytime terrace equivalent. leading the ep will be the rework of groove catcher by martin buttrich, with the german producer lending the considerable talents that have led to releases on poker flat and cocoon recordings - as well as his recruitment behind the mixing desk for timo maas and loco dice - to a pair of remixes that transform the original into a different beast entirely. remix a mutates groove catcher into something monstrous and intimidating, bringing a different intensity to the track and injecting it with a heightened sense of danger.

our search for real club music gems has led us to hamburg, where a young man and his nord modular has been attracting our attention for quite a while now: benjamin brunn.

reggie blount is one cool fucker doing some great p-funk electro tracks as one would expect to hear from midnight star, morris day and the time, bootsy collins and the many unknown early 80s unknown electro funk boogie funkateers. heavily influenced by the underground electro-boogie style of the early 80s as well as more known artists such as one way, kashif, mtume, cameo, and parliament. reggie blount brings together the elements which led these styles to the forefront of the club scene at a time when drum machines and synthesizers were giving birth to the bedroom recording artist. mr blount offers up some heat for your funk bone on his long anticipated debut ep! as with all crown limited releases only two manufacturing runs... one is pre-orders only... two is when prices go crazy in the 2nd hand market. so make sure you will pre-order this in time!

q: how did quinn and alexis meet?
a: the two were introduced by chris veltri, owner of legendary record shop groove merchant in san francisco. veltri and luke had made a pair of plunderphonic dusted disco 12 inches under the name coppa. georgopoulos was a founder of the group tussle and asked if coppa would do a tussle remix. this led to luke acting as producer on the tussle album telescope mind.

another brutal speaker assault from the coinop camp! voted the worlds greatest label ever (repeatedly) by channel 4 viewers. nan-bangin says it all really - yet again the coinop massive (led by general mustard gunn) freak our minds and bootys with this, a very london affair....other than that theres not a lot to say for a label that has everyone hooked but our office highlight has to be the brilliant kanjis brand new vip remix of his own previously huge coinop track >drive you crazy<

tres gueros are three white brooklynites led by the amorphous producer sleazy mcqueen. this collaboration as a whole has been a few years in the making with two vocalists, two guitar players and if that wasnt enough, he brought in beef wellington for some additional synthesizing work.
this is a feel good indie-dance track that you will keep any crowd dancing. we have got some great remixers on board from nu-disco gurus anthony mansfield who runs hector works with partner and crime nick chacona. neighbour and his signature disco-house sound, along with newcomer dave allison who runs kinjo music. for good measure sleazy mcqueen has added a big room dub!

re-edit of a beautiful soul-drenched and piano led boogie obscurity!

the amazing situation return with two sides of love – gangster love and sutra love. the gangster side is an amazing clash of a skit from american gangster (heavily inspired by the eddy grant produced >funky like a train< by the equals) with donna summer. the resulting blend is as inspiring and surprising as it is unlikely. but with their usual disregard for boundaries and rules, situation seamlessly melt the two original cuts together into a perfect slice of discoid boogie that absolutely sets fire to the dancefloor. on the flip side, love of a deeper and groovier type oozes from sutra love. its a case of yet more top class, bass led disco action thats firmly focussed on maximum dancefloor reaction. this is without a doubt one of the best situations ever! and with heavy releases on disco deviance and their own imprint already under the belt that really is saying something.

ark has got an eclectic and organic sound, something in between. from his origins as guitarist in a number of 80s funk bands, most notably trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is pepe bradock and onto the great matthew herbert & losoul with their first collaboration, belle lurette in 99. the alleluyark ep series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. his 2005 long player on perlon, caliente won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with shalom (as shalark), krikor (as krikark), cabanne (as copacabannark), mikael weill (as les cerveaux lents) and dolibox. his cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of stephen beaupre, mr. oizo, archive, mossa, salif keita, slabb, fym, robag wruhme

the freaks are in town - led by migumatix! he grabs his influences from detroit to acidhouse and takes us on a ride from deep down in the valley all the way up to mountain high. once arrived we embrace sun and spread love across the land!

following up the dancefloor smasher that was i thought inside out, deadmau5 and chris lake join forces once again to bring you i said. the original mix is all about the killer, heads down groove, dirty tom led drums provide a perfect base for the jittery percussion, deep bass and bleeping synths, which all push into breakdown of epic proportions

played by karotte & sven vÄth at timewarp 2010!!! chris wood & meat return from their splash on kindische for another electric package, this time on murmur with backdown ep complete with sascha dive remix. backdown is a truly head-turning release – setting up three takes on one track touching on high-end percussion, brass instrument led melodies and the voiced enquiry – do you want it? this package comes with a dub version and sascha dive remix, each accentuating their own unique take on the original. the original melts with a sumptuous hook within a low end bassline before dropping into a restless trumpet fanfare. sascha dive puts a warm and driving house spin on the track, preparing it for those early moments on the dancefloor whilst the dub is the quirky and more looming take on the original one to keep the bodies moving.
